Medication schedule (03/08 - 03/16, 9 days)

FOR ANXIETY: As needed, Acepromazine 25mg tablet - 1 tablet every 8-12 hours for anxiety or to help your pet sleep

FOR CONSTIPATION: Unflavored metamucil at a dose of 1 teaspoon per 50 pounds body weight can be mixed in canned food (in each meal) as a laxative. If this treatment is not effective, other laxatives can be prescribed.

Rehabilitation Schedule

Day	Activity
Day 1-3 (03/07 - 03/09)	3x daily of: cold compress, 20 min
Day 4-14 (03/10 - 03/20)	3x daily of: warm compress, 10 min range of motion exercises, 5 min cold compress, 5 min

Range of Motion Exercises

Range of motion exercises are done by flexing and extending the knee joint three sessions daily for five minutes each. The goal is to flex the knee so that the tip of the hock (heel) will touch the rump and straighten the knee out completely.

Follow-up Appointments

2 weeks: staple removal and evaluation of the operated limb
8 weeks: radiographs (x-ray) of the operated limb

Day before procedure

No food or water after 12:00a (midnight) the night before the procedure; water is permitted

Day of procedure

Four (4) Pepcid AC 10 mg tablets by mouth with water, 6a the day of the procedure
If the clinic has not called to give an updated pickup time, please call by 4p

Post procedure

Elizabethan collar (cone) must be used for at least 2 weeks to prevent licking the incision.
Remove IV catheter bandage

Notes

Urinary incontinence/urinary retention, fecal incontinence for 24-36 hrs possible
Do not touch the area over the shoulder for 4 days. If in contact, wash with soap and water (due to Recuvyra transdermal analgesic)
Do not let other pets come in contact for 72 hours (due to Recuvyra transdermal analgesic)
Do not let the dog upstairs
Do not let the dog off leash when going outside
May not have a bowel movement for the next 4 days after surgery.
