How I learned to stop worrying and love the (google)bomb.
Gleaning a lesson from the brilliant “miserable failure” incident, formulating a link strategy is essential for posting up on the top spot.
Typical link format:
<a href=”http://www.gilligansbaitshoppe.com”>www.gilligansbaitshoppe.com
</a>.
Sitting in between the link html, anchor text can weigh heavily and should be carefully considered in your overall SEO strategy. Using your url as anchor text doesn’t have the impact that incorporating targeted keywords/phrases might.
Tip: When others link to your site (in a blog post or paper), give them a nudge by supplying pre-formatted links for them to insert into their content.
ex: “Hey Skipper, glad you’re writing an article about my shop! If it’s not too much trouble, could you use the following link when mentioning my store?
<a href=”http://www.gilligansbaitshoppe.com/”>Gilligan’s Minnows, Cricket, and Worm Bait</a>”
Using “Click here” or “home” as anchor text can sabotage your web ubiquity; instead, why not use “Gilligan’s Bait Shop Home” or “Click here for Bait Advice”?
When dropping those links in forums and blog posts, ask yourself, “Be this anchor text what I want to be found under, YARRR?”.
Release that anchor, you ol’ sailor you.
- bang.
